Having been overweight in the earlier part of my life, I struggled with impulse and food for years. Treats were a way for me to regulate stress and intense emotions, as a coping mechanism. I also experienced an addictive tendency and could not stop eating once I started, often feeling sick afterwards.
There are so many emotions associated with the body and the process of changing the body. When we don’t have a body that looks the way we want, we may carry feelings of shame, battling with ourselves and berating ourselves for our behaviors.
Maybe you've been struggling with this all your life or you are going through a phase of body change, as a result of age, trauma, sickness or hormones and experiencing a lot of fear. The body can be confusing and frustrating in times when we feel dysregulated.
