FAQs

  • Hypnosis is the practice or set of techniques used to induce a state of trance. The state of trance is a comfortable, naturally occurring state of mind.

Most people generally experience a form of trance multiple times throughout the day.

Trance is often experienced in moments of relaxed, automatic concentration such as driving, watching TV or working. It is similar to day dreaming.

The state of trance is not only harmless, it is beneficial. It is a state when the nervous system can relax. The brain becomes highly creative and finds an effortless concentration.

It is an ideal state to facilitate accelerated change to patterns that no longer serve you.

  • Hypnotherapy is the method of using guided relaxation techniques to achieve a state of peaceful trance that support therapeutic outcomes.

Hypnotherapy combines hypnosis with other strategies such as NLP, core belief repatterning & somatic connection to facilitate personal healing and empowerment.

It is important to note that the benefits of hypnotherapy are cumulative.

While some issues can be improved with only one session, most complex problems require ongoing support.

By practicing regularly in session and at home, your results will become more concrete and long lasting.

Plan to allow for 90 minutes to two hours for a first session.

  • No specific preparation is needed for a hypnotherapy session.

Sessions are a safe place for you to arrive as you are.

If you practice journaling, you can bring it along if you believe it may help.

  • Absolutely, hypnotherapy is compatible with any other modality.

As a non-invasive and drug-free option, hypnotherapy is generally well-tolerated and can complement traditional medical treatments.

Overall, the benefits of hypnotherapy extend beyond symptom alleviation, fostering a holistic approach to mental and emotional well-being.

  • Anyone can be hypnotized as trance is a naturally occurring state. However, to access a trance state through being guided by someone else requires trust, relaxation and concentration. This is best achieved through a strong therapeutic relationship & authentic participation.

There may be misconception about what trance "feels" like. Some people may question the process of hypnosis when their experiences' does not match their expectations. As long as positive change is happening in your life, we can consider the treatment as effective.

  • There is no bad hypnosis subject. The notion of “having trouble being hypnotised” is often a construct of the mind. This can happen when a person's experience of hypnosis does not match their expectations of what they should “feel”. A person may therefore not believe to be in a trance state and/or resist therapeutic intervention.

That being said, difficulty in reaching a relaxed state can also happen for a variety of reasons such as lack of emotional safety, an active resistance due to disbelief, substance abuse, or medical/mental health conditions.

During a therapeutic session, we are more concerned about beneficial outcomes over the “experienced state”. As long as there are positive life changes, we can consider a session to be successful.

  • Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis cannot make you act against your will. A person cannot be forced to compromise their moral and ethical code through hypnosis or be coerced in any way.

During hypnosis, individuals remain fully conscious and able to stop at any time. Therapy happens primarily from a place of safety as well as rapport between therapist and client.

Hypnotherapy is a consensual practice. No progress or benefit can be attained without engagement.

The state of hypnosis equates to a state of deep calm when the mind is at rest and is more open to positive change.

  • Hypnotherapy is most beneficial with regular practice. I recommend a session weekly or fortnightly.

Less frequent session will lengthen the therapeutic process and reduce effectiveness.

  • Hypnotherapy is very effective at encouraging relaxation.

The capacity to relax is an invaluable skill for everyday life. It will allow you to manage your stress effectively and benefit your mental health.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful ally for mental health as a supportive tool to work with limiting beliefs, support anxiety, build a healthy sense of self-worth & self-confidence.
